]]> http://www.thedoopids.com/hesaid/happy-birthday-kasey/feed/ Finally got Fotki http://www.thedoopids.com/hesaid/finally-got-fotki/ http://www.thedoopids.com/hesaid/finally-got-fotki/#comments Thu, 19 Mar 2009 13:06:59 +0000 Rob http://www.thedoopids.com/?p=20 I have lots of pictures and never knew where to store them and the JPG files are ginormous.  I needed a place to store it so that I retained the original pictures and I was able to link to them to use on other pages and Fotki looked to be the best solution.  It’s relatively cheap too at $15 a year.  It will also provide me some sense of safety for my pictures since my NAS or hard drives can fail and I can lose all my pictures.  The one thing I hate about it is that they say they give you FTP access, but it’s so stripped down…can’t create folders from FTP.  This will make my initial uploading experience really crappy.   Also their Desktop app sucks.  I tried to upload 10+ albums at 8GB and it failed after 16 pictures.  This is going to take a lot of work, but at least once I get it done once, it should be all good.

So…I’m trying to resurrect it.  Why?  Because I’m paying for a server and the domain anyway and it’s a site we can call ours.  It’s now hosted on my server so I won’t forget if I don’t make a payment.  It’s not like facebook where you just read about what we are currently doing.  It will have more content and meaning.  Do you really care that I just saw a movie or that I’m going to have a donut?  I didn’t think so either.  Anyway, there will be some good posts on our site to come so visit again.  Bookmark me.  Link me.  Do something.
